I am a certified Life Coach, having completed a Diploma in Life Coaching, accredited by the Association for Coaching.
My previous careers include several years in retail pharmacy, and later in university library services. While working during off-peak hours at the library, I found I was spending much of my time offering a supportive, listening ear to patrons rather than providing traditional library services! What’s more, I found this side of the role more fulfilling, and realised this is where my true calling was!
I began my journey into coaching by taking a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills, and find the experience gained from this course immensely valuable in supporting my coaching practice. I went on to complete an accredited qualification as a Life Coach and have worked with numerous clients on a variety of topics.
As part of my personal development journey, I was diagnosed in my late 30s with dyspraxia and ASD. I find that my own life experiences give me an understanding and affinity with people who identify with differences, including those who identify as highly sensitive, introverted (particularly INFJ profiles), neurodivergent, empaths, etc.
I have also worked in voluntary positions, offering befriending to isolated older people and supporting mental health support services. I have worked with people of various ages and backgrounds.
Everyone is unique, and I love learning about other people’s experiences of the world.
My approach is based on a person-centred model, which means that you, the client, choose exactly what you wish to focus on during our coaching sessions. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, goals and ambitions, and address any challenges or problems that may be holding you back.
By listening attentively and reflecting the points you discuss, I will help you to feel genuinely heard and understood. I will also ask questions to help you clarify your thoughts and, where appropriate, challenge you to delve more deeply and consider new perspectives.
We will work together to identify what you would like to work on or change, and will create a realistic plan for you to take positive steps forward. I will offer support and encouragement as you move toward your goals.
I believe that we are all doing the best we can with the experience and mindset we have at this point in our life. However, I also believe that change and growth is not only possible, but is the natural progression of life. I base my approach to coaching on Carl Rogers’ theory that, given the necessary supportive conditions, all people will move towards ‘self-actualization’ -the process of reaching one’s full potential.
